I haven't actually read the book yet, nor have I ever actually picked up a book by John Green. *smacks self on hand* I'll go into WaterStones at some point and pick one up, I promise. Perhaps An Abundance of Katherines, or Will Greyson, Will Greyson. They have intriguing titles, hopefully the content matches up!
So, I'll start with giving the yet-to-see-TFIOS-people a little tip... Take tissues. Alternatively, take a boyfriend with a shirt on. I didn't take tissues, but just so happened to conveniently have my boyfriend beside me, who left the cinema with my lipstick, mascara, and more glamorously; my snot and tears down one side of his (Thankfully not white) shirt. His shirt resembled my used baby wipe after a long day. Seductive.
In my opinion, the film started off a little slow and it failed to capture my full attention until it were around 15 minutes in with a bit of comedy regarding religion. I didn't expect it to make me laugh at all, but I probably laughed more than I cried, and I cried a lot.
I adore that this film made me laugh so much, and was surprised that it did, as the advertisements for it portrayed the film as sad, and didn't inform you of the comedy of TFIOS.
The specific parts that made me laugh the most, without being too specific for this to be a spoiler, were how the cancer support groups leader fitted the annoying religious stereotype to a T, holding the support group "literally in the heart of Jesus" which was actually a rug!
Also, when Augustus and Hazel discuss their wishes, and Augustus finds out Hazel used her wish to go to Disney World? Me and my boyfriend just looked at each other and laughed so hard. I'd choose to go to Disney World any day, and that's exactly what I'd use my wish for, and how Augustus reacted is exactly how my boyfriend would. I will drag his butt kicking and screaming into Magical Kingdom one day.
I was really skeptical about going to see this movie, as it's not my usual style of film I'd go for, and I'd assumed it was too immature, boring and unoriginal, plus I've not read the book and one of my pet peeves is viewing a movie adaption of a book before reading the book itself first, but I am so glad I did!
If I wasn't such an emotional poo stain, I'd go and see it again, but I'd probably have an emotional break down if I allowed myself the pain of fictional murdering John Greens pure evilness in his character killing choices. R.I.P you little lovely character, you.
If you think you won't shed a single tear, I can assure you you're wrong. Don't quote me on that, though, I don't know how heartless you are...
The thing is about TFIOS is that you don't even have to find the actual story emotional, or even get attached the the characters in question themselves, though I dare you to attempt to not fall in love with either Issac, Hazel or Augustus. I think the main reason that I cried is because I know if I was ever put in a situation like Hazel, I have no idea what I'd do. I've never had anyone close to me pass away, and I cannot begin to imagine the heart ache, loneliness and fear I'd feel if my loved ones died. Whilst the cinema screen showed me Hazel crying over the news of Augustus' death, I cried with her, gripping my boyfriends hand and shirt. Long gone was the clean shirt, sorry, Karl...
It was actually quite overwhelming and strange watching TFIOS in a very full cinema. You realise just how similar humans are to one another, even if you think you're brain works very differently from every other person, your emotions get triggered the same. Every single person in the cinema, from the young group of girls, to the lovely old couple, all laughed in sync, and all cried at John Greens command. So surreal!

Aaaand, Looking For Alaska, another of John Greens books, is being made into a film, too! Exciting stuff, I think John Greens going to be a massive. Not the fat massive, I mean reputation/media etc...
