5 Facts You Might Not Know About Me - Tag

Hey guys,
Different type of blog post today, and it's a tag blog post (Hello era of MySpace, remember the Questions you'd do and tag people? I love it, I want to do YouTube tag videos now too!) and I got nominated to do this post by the gorgeous blogger Rachael from Style My Magpie. Click her name to read her post! She's an amazing jewellery blogger, and her pictures on Instagram are beautiful, she gives me ring and necklace envy whenever she shows us what she got from Regal Rose and Boho Dreamers, aesthetic on point.

So, here goes; Five things you may not know about me...

1. Both of my parents are disabled, and I was a Young Carer.

I was my mum and dads first child, born in 1995, to John and Sharon. My mum has been blind and deaf since birth, also having no sense of smell. She's been through a number of heart and eye surgeries, looked after my dad and took care of me and my two younger siblings and tried to give us the best childhood even though she didn't have a good one. She's a strong woman, and I appreciate her so much.
My dad has brain damage epilepsy and dementia, and currently lives in a care home due to these illness'. He didn't have these disabilities from birth though, he unfortunately attempted suicide and due to this got brain damaged, and has deteriorated ever since.
By the way, this definitely isn't a negative thing; when I was a kid I didn't think anything of it, I was more than happy to help my parents anyway they needed me, whether that be helping mum read things, helping my dad off of the floor after an epileptic fit, changing my sisters nappies... I just assumed everyone did this sort of thing!

I joined Young Carers when I was 6 years old, which are a fantastic organisation who help Young Carers not feel alone in their situation. You get to meet other children like you, and go out on day trips to places your parents may not be able to take you due to their disabilities. They're a charitable organisation, and rely on donations and help. 2. I love playing video games, and Overwatch is my favourite...

So I used to be really into gaming when I was younger, and I adored Pokémon, Crash Bandicoot, Mario Kart and Sonic the best. Oh an not forgetting Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas, but I wasn't old enough to play, shh... I grew out of playing video consoles as I got older and my style changed, but got back into it when I got with my partner. I mainly play on the computer, but also have PlayStations, Nintendo DS and Switch and Game Boys.
I want to start playing more games that are similar to Overwatch, so if you have any suggestions I'd love to know them! Also if you play, it'd be fun to group up and play together - My Blizzard name is StephLea if you want to add me, let me know!
If, like me, you fell out of love with gaming but want to get back into it, it's worth looking on the website Latest Deals - they do what it says on the tin, finds you the latest deals, and there's great ones for consoles at the moment, especially PlayStation 4s. (It's not affiliate, I don't earn anything by you looking or buying, just sharing the knowledge)

3. I used to be a Christian, and was part of a cult?

If you live in Northamptonshire like me, or even other areas of the UK like Coventry or Sheffield, I'm sure you've heard of the Jesus Army. Now, they have a bit of a reputation, which I didn't fully believe until I was too far into it. I won't go too much into my experience of them here, that's a whole other blog post and/or video! But I will say it definitely tainted my perception of Christianity and religions on a whole.
At the time though, I classed myself as a God loving Christian, always reading my bible, praying and going to all of the churches meetings. I tried to abide by the ways, changing the way I dressed and not wearing make up as it was considered a sin to want to make yourself look 'nice' as it must be to attract boys and their wondering eyes, right?
Well, after what I experienced I am no longer religious. I'd put myself in the agnostic category, maybe spiritual? I'm into crystals, though I don't have solid beliefs on anything, I'm open minded...
I don't know if I would have stayed Christian if I was to have joined a different church, who knows, although I can safely say I'll never join a religious organisation with a front of community housing and 'love' again, that's for sure...

4. I've been a vegan for four years now...

Most of you probably know that I'm vegan, I'm not shy about it on Instagram anyway haha. I'm vegan primarily for the animals, and the health benefits and effect it has on the world is just an added bonus! I first went vegetarian, as I saw a video on Facebook of people watching a slaughterhouse video, and the look on their faces and the tears spoke volumes to me and I knew I could no longer eat murdered animals. Maybe if I had actually seen the video they were watching I would have gone vegan straight away? (or had a mental breakdown, hey hey)  I didn't even know what a vegan was until I noticed a lot of vegetarians gave up eggs and cheese as well and wondered why... Then I researched it and was so shocked, I gave it up... Not long after, my boyfriend, mum, and sister went vegetarian and vegan with me! I was so happy to have taught them and adore that they chose to do this for the animals too.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not the stereotypical vegan you hear about who always tells you they're vegan and 'forces' everyone around them to adopt the same lifestyle, I have plenty of friends who eat meat, but I will gladly help anyone who wants to look into it more!
A good place to start is by watching the documentary 'Earthlings' (the movie that turned my boyfriend vegan) or watching 'What The Health' on Netflix.

5. I'm a wedding photographer and videographer!

Yep, I'm a photographer and videographer shooting mainly weddings, and I adore it! I love photographing all the little details of peoples big days, capturing the moment the groom sees the bride for the first time, and getting the crazy shots of the evening guests partying hard afterwards. Its definitely a tiring job, as you can be on your feet for more than 12 hours, constantly taking photos or filming, and sometimes dealing with Bridezillas! (I've not had many of them though, I'll admit, thankfully!) I'm really lucky that I get to do this alongside my best friend, my boyfriend. He owns the business, called Revive Photographic and if you want to check out our portfolio, or even contact us to do your wedding, party or even a portrait session, I'd love to hear from you!
